THEORETICAL INTENSIVE LECTURES

The theoretical lectures of the EquiKnow CPD courses allow attendees to understand the main concepts of the equine practitionar tasks as well as getting to know the most commonly procedures used in daily practice. Being highly interactive, they lead to valuable professional exchange of experiences between attendees and lecturers. focused on key points to better results. 

Module 1

Pre-and Post- surgical considerations

  • Decision for surgery; Client communication; Presurgical management & Prophylaxis; Patient evaluation & preparation; Team of work, Postsurgical management.

Surgery materials

  • Basic and specific surgical instruments; Suture types and patterns; Dead space & Drains; Draping, Skin preparation and other materials.

Field Anesthesia

  • Tranquilizers & Alpha agonists, Opioids, Anesthetics; Standing sedation & restraint combinations; Induction, Total intravenous anaesthesia & Triple drip ; Inhalatory anaesthesia; Monitoring under GA; Recovery.

Head and Neck surgeries

  • Entropion, Third eyelid removal, Enucleation (transconjunctival and transpalpebral); 
  • Tracheotomy and Tracheostomy

Distal limb surgeries

Bones 

  • Periosteal elevation; Partial MC/MT Ostectomy;

Ligaments

  • Medial Patellar Ligament Desmotomy, Palmar Anular Desmotomy, Distal Check-Ligament Desmotomy;

Tendons

  • Superficial & Deep Digital Flexor Tendon Tenotomy, Lateral Extensor Tendon Miotenectomy;

Nerves

  • Palmar Digital Neurectomy.

Urogenital surgeries 

  • Vulvoplasty and Episioplasty in mares;
  • Bilateral orchiectomy, Partial phallectomy and Segmental postectomy in male horses.

Limited Abdominal surgery

  • Umbilical herniorraphy.

personalized PRACTICAL HANDS-ON TRAINING

The practical training at EquiKnow CPD courses consist of hands-on supervised procedures performed by small groups of attendees over anatomic specimens, thus allowing a personalized educative experience.

sURGERY WORKSHOPS

The observational surgery workshop of EquiKnowCPD courses enables trainees to get direct visualization and participation in all stages of several field surgery procedures in selected cases, since the arrival of the patient, communication with the client and preparation of the materials, through being able to assist in the anesthesia induction-monitoring-recovery phases and the surgery procedure, to the discussion of treatments and post-operative handling of the horse for the best outcome.

Our courses are aimed for advanced veterinary students, recently graduates in veterinary sciences as well as veterinary colleagues looking for continuing development education.

The course can be offered both in spanish and in english.

The first courses were successfully held in Uruguay (during 2022 we added LIVE ZOOM STREAMING to Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and the USA), but also we are able to reply it in other countries of the region and worldwide .

Yes, absolutely. No horses are hurt or suffer during this courses. The practical training is performed in anatomic specimens donated by equine abbatoirs on previous days. Regarding the observational surgery workshop, the procedures are performed in horses needing a certain procedure, previously evaluated under professional veterinary criteria.

Yes, after completing the course, you will get a certificate, signed by the lecturers.
